Top5Studios, my personal studio where I record, is undergoing upgrades. I spent last weekend installing a compressor/de-esser/Limiter, and I also bought a direct box for my guitars.
The compressor takes volume swells that occur on vocals and keep the volume increase limited. That way, a vocalist can sing quietly to loudly without the overall volume drastically changing. The de-esser portion of the machine takes out the ‘s’ sound (like a lisp) that occurs when a person sings.
The DI box for the guitar converts an unbalanced load to a balanced one. This gets rid of the hum of the amplifier.
The next major purchase, a studio grade microphone, will finish the studio and have ‘Lava Lamp,’ my next CD, ready for recording.
Sincerely,
Lawtonious Funk

Wait.....I thought you didn't play the guitar anymore :-P
Funny thing happened. My dog bit the crap out of my hand thereby crushing the cist on my wrist. I can now play again and saved $2000 of surgery. I love Madison. She's a great dog.
she certainly earned her lifetime supply of dogfood.
Sorry Haze,
I thought you already had the info and just didn't want a CD. Kind of didn't want to bring it up;)
