S. S. Mayday

So, I took the Mayday out for its first voyage of the boating season. Scott, a buddy of mine from work, and I put in at the Folly River, (the inlet of Folly Beach) and rode down the Folly River and up the Long Island River. Much of this riding was discerning between which way the ‘river’ went and which way was just shallow land covered by high tide. We almost made it to Lighthouse Creek, but I wasn’t sure that a safe pass was present, and given that the last time I went out on the boat we bottomed out, I decided to turn around. Well, now that I know where I can travel long distances safely on calmer water, water sports are on at the Funkhouse.

After returning to Folly River, I tried to ride across the ocean access point to go to the Stono River, which would lend itself to much travel. Well, it was a bit choppy with 20 mph winds. The wave tripled in size at the ocean access point. I turned around and we got the boat in just before dark. I’ll be going out again this weekend with the Roch. Hopefully our adventure will be more successful, and we’ll brave the Stono. Check mapquest for Folly Beach, SC to see everywhere I went. Wha, you’ll have to bring your old boat down so we can get a large group to boating.

Sincerely,

Lawtonious Funk

Good for you and your fancy technology. Some day I'll have to learn about them dang things called "boats."

Larson had one of them "boats" but it looked more like a lawn ornament to me.....that or an elevated couch. It did float though, one time after the engine worked long enough to get us into the middle of Hartwell.

I would love too. Are we talking all saltwater naviagation. I think I have to get her primed a little differently if this is the plan. How big is your boat? Mine is only about 17 ft so ocean navigation would be a bit dicey. That's why it's a bayliner, not a coastliner I guess. No pun intended. We will see, and I'll keep you posted on the feasability. As it stands now, my boat would be washed to the Gulf then to the Atlantic should hell and high water hit it's present location. Got to get it back across the mountains before I can even make sure she is water worthy.

I own an 18 foot lake boat. I take it on tidal creeks. You just have to wash it off and flush the engine when you go saltwater (or freshwater if you care). I also would be lost at sea if I got close to the ocean.

Shouldn't you have signed that as Captain Lawtonious Funk?
