Virus-InEscapeKey-able

So,

I have a virus on my laptop. Yes, it's the same laptop that has all of my wedding addresses on it. Fortunately, I burned my database to cd. So, here it is:

1. It gives me a home page.
2. It adds links, including porn links, to 'My Favorites.'
3. This is the bad one-it has screwed with my memory and I can't get into 'My Computer' or 'Windows Explorer' or anything else where I could search out the miscreant file and delete it.

So, on my new home page there is a button that says, remove hompepage. This sends me to a spot where I can pay for a bunch of different pop-up blockers. Lo and behold I try one out and it finds my virus. Hmmmm. Naturally, I didn't actually pay for it, I just let it scan for free. I have since downloaded Norton, but I don't think that will fix this.

Any advice?

Sincerely,
Lawtonious Funk

If you're on XP, do a system restore back to just before the problem occurred.

Once you get norton installed, make sure you update the virus definitions before doing a scan. If it's a virus, I'm pretty sure it will pick it up.

If it's some type of adware, I like the Microsoft Beta software. Otherwise, I think Wha said he found a good one.
